Common Emitter Amplifier Gain

The collector voltage V_C should be about half the supply voltage V_bbwhen there is no signal applied. This operating point allows a maximum swing of output voltage without clipping or distortion. One approach to design is to choose an operating collector current I_C and then calculate the necessary collector resistor to drop from V_bb to that point. Choosing R_Ewould then fix the load line and the gain.
